CECAFA Club Champions Bow out of Muungano Cup 2026, Simba Advance

Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) club champions Singida Black Stars FC have been eliminated from the  on-going Muungano Cup 2026.

Singida were eliminated by Zanzibar Premier League side Mlandege FC 2-1 in a quarter final match played at the New Amaan Complex.

Singida drew first blood through Daudi Mishamo after 9 minutes. However Mlandege FC fought back strongly to score two goals before the interval.

Omariy Samatta scored the equaliser for the Zanzibari side in the 28th minute before Mussa Mbappe scored the winning goal for 2-1 lead the break.

Simba 1 Mafunzo 0

Simba SC edged Mafunzo 1-0 in a Muungano Cup quarter-final clash staged  at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.

After a barren first half, the breakthrough for Simba finally arrived when Selemani Mwalimu found the back of the net eight minutes after the restart.

Simba’s victory secured their progression to the semi-finals of the eight-team tournament, which features sides drawn from both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

The five-time winners of the competition will now turn their attention to a semi-final showdown against Mlandege.

The annual competition, featuring eight teams, four from Tanzania Mainland and four from Zanzibar, is held to commemorate the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar on April 26. All matches are being played at the same venue.
