French-born winger Noam Fritz Emeran has received his first-ever call-up to the Rwanda national football team (Amavubi) for the upcoming international friendlies against Comoros and Tanzania.
He was named in the 24-man squad by head coach Stephen Constantine for the upcoming international friendly matches.
Emeran, who currently plays for FC Groningen, is the son of former Rwanda international Fritz Emeran Nkusi and could finally make his debut for Amavubi after several attempts by the Rwanda FA to convince him to join the national team.
The former France under-16 international joined Manchester United’s youth set-up from Amiens in 2019 under Erik ten Hag and then left the Red Devils to the 2014–15 KNVB Cup champions Dutch Eredivisie club Groningen in Netherlands in search of regular playing time.
Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain were both linked with a move for Emeran when he joined United, but he snubbed them in favour of a move to Old Trafford.
Emeran is eligible to represent France or Rwanda at international level. He made two appearances for France at under-16 level in 2017.
Emeran was born in Paray-le-Monial, France. His mother is Rwandan and his Guadeloupean-born father, Fritz Emeran, is a former professional footballer who played internationally for Rwanda.
Out of the 24 players selected, 11 are locally based. APR FC provide the largest contingent with six players, while Rayon Sports, Police FC and Marine FC each contribute one player.
Kiyovu SC have two representatives in the squad, including Fidali Uwiyaremye, who has earned his maiden senior national team call-up following an impressive domestic campaign in which he scored 11 goals in the BK Pro League.
Rwanda head coach Stephen will use the international friendly matches to fine-tune preparations ahead of Rwanda’s next Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.
Rwanda will hold a training camp in Marrakech, Morocco, where both matches are scheduled to take place on June 6 and June 9 respectively.
