Six times Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) club champions Simba SC surrendered a two goal lead to draw with Tunisian outfit Esperance Sportive de Tunis 2–2 draw away to in a match played as part of Matchday 4 of the CAF Champions League group stage.
The Tanzanian side went into the break in front thanks to goals from right back Shomari Kapombe (39th) and Yusuph Kagoma (45th).
However, the Bab Souika club fought back after half-time to level the score through Ivory Coast national Aboubakar Diakité signed from 24 times Malian top flight league champions Djoliba AC in the 64th and the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 Player of the Month in May 2023 Kouceila Boualia (79th).
The match could have swung in Esperance’s favour, but Hamza Jelassi missed a decisive stoppage time penalty. In the next round, Simba, still bottom of the group, will travel to face Petro de Luanda, while Espérance will head to Stade Malien for a top-of-the-table clash.
