Record league champions Gor Mahia were slowed in their 2025/26 SportPesa League title charge after being held to a 0-0 draw by the 2018 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup winners Kariobangi Sharks, who eased their relegation fears.
Following the draw, Gor Mahia’s advantage at the summit of the table now remains five points, with their arch-rivals AFC Leopards breathing down their necks as only eight games remain till curtains come falling on the season.
The result enabled Sharks to leapfrog Ulinzi Stars on the log after the Soldiers suffered a 1-0 defeat to fellow relegation candidates APS Bomet in a match played earlier in the day.
With the result, Gor Mahia moved to 57 points and could see their lead cut to two points if AFC Leopards win their Sunday, 5 April, match against Murang’a Seal.
Sharks, on the other hand, rose to 14th on the log with 26 points, one more than Ulinzi Stars and APS Bomet in the relegation zone.
For Mathare United, the defeat represents their 12th loss of the season, leaving them rooted in 13th place on 30 points, with their battle for survival still very much unresolved.
Ulinzi Stars 0 APS Bomet 1
Debutantes APS Bomet ended their seven match winless streak courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday, 4 April.
In what was a battle between the police and the military, the Administration Police side grabbed a victory through Anthony Naibei’s goal in first half stoppage time.
Going into the match, Ulinzi had won two matches since parting ways with coach Stephen Ocholla, wins that detangled them from the relegation quagmire.
APS, on the other hand, were on a seven-match winless streak that sank them into the relegation zone in what has been a tough debut season for the Law Enforcers.
With the win, APS took their point tally to 25, the same as Ulinzi and might finish the day out of the relegation zone depending on the result between Gor Mahia and Kariobangi Sharks.
