The Football Kenya Federation (FKF), in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has today officially launched a three-day CAF Safe Stadiums Initiative Workshop aimed at enhancing safety and security standards across stadiums in Kenya.
The workshop, presided over by FKF CEO Denis Gicheru and National Executive Committee (NEC) Member Mohamed Dabar Kado, brings together key stakeholders in matchday operations for an intensive training program designed to embed safety as a core pillar of football management in the country.
Facilitated by CAF Safety and Security experts Xolile Nokuthula and Allan Kakhame, the initiative comes at a crucial time as Kenya continues its preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The training focuses on equipping participants with modern safety protocols, risk management strategies, and international best practices required to deliver secure and well-coordinated matchday environments.
Speaking during the opening session, FKF officials underscored the importance of proactive planning and professional standards in stadium management, noting that safety is fundamental to the growth and integrity of the game.
The CAF Safe Stadiums Initiative is part of FKF’s broader capacity-building agenda, which seeks to professionalize all aspects of football administration in Kenya. Beyond AFCON 2027, the program is expected to have a lasting impact on local competitions by improving matchday operations and enhancing the overall fan experience.
Participants will gain practical knowledge critical to ensuring that players, officials, fans, and all stakeholders can enjoy football in a safe and secure environment. The workshop reinforces FKF’s commitment to aligning Kenyan football with global standards while building a sustainable framework for the future.
