Kenya Under-20 forward Aldrine Kibet was on target for Celta Vigo to pip Athletic Club 2-1 to book a place in the Spanish U19 King’s Cup semi-finals.
Making his full debut and playing 88 minutes, the Kenyan delivered a standout performance on Wednesday, 11 February, evening, by scoring and giving an assist.
Kibet levelled the scores in the 36th minute, calmly finishing to bring Celta back into the contest after Athletic had taken a 26th-minute lead through Danel Narvarte.
The goal means he has now found the net twice in his last three appearances for the club.
The former St. Antony’s Boys Kitale playmaker then turned provider in the second half, setting up Angel Davila Outerelo for the decisive goal in the 68th minute to seal progression for the hosts.
Kibet was withdrawn in the 88th minute in favour of Garcia Alvarez Pedro leaving the pitch to standing ovation from the fans.
Meanwhile, in the English Football Championship, new signing Kenyan forward Collins Sichenje remained an unused substitute as Charlton Athletic boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over Stoke City at The Valley.
Tyreece Campbell struck the winner in the 81st minute to move Nathan Jones’ side seven points clear of the relegation zone, while Stoke extended their winless run to six matches.
