After a historic year in which Nairobi United captured the imagination of the local football scene by achieving the unthinkable, they start the new year with a congested run of fixtures that is set to push their physical and mental capabilities to the limit.
The Naibois, as they are fondly known within the local football scene, finished the year on a mixed run of form. After a poor start to December, where the team lost both their first two Sportpesa League matches to Mathare United and Poster Rangers, the team managed to bring to a halt their rotten run of form that had seen them go five games without a win, by salvaging a 1_1 draw against Muranga Seal.
They followed it up with a much improved performance, beating former champions Tusker 1_0 at Sportpesa Arena in Muranga before closing the year with the much anticipated clash against record champions Gor Mahia, whom they had beaten in the 2025 Mozzart cup final 2_1 to earn a ticket to the continental stage in what is quickly turning out to be the newest derby in the city.
The highly charged match was abandoned in the 58th minute with the scores tied at 1_1 after violent scenes erupted in the stands at the Dandora Stadium. Both teams are still waiting for the final verdict from the FKF disciplinary committee on the fate of the match.
The Naibois are set to play seven matches within January in a gruelling run of fixtures that is likely to define their debut season in the Sportpesa League and the continental stage.
They begin the month with what promises to be a mouthwatering encounter against Kisii-based side Shabana FC at the Gusii stadium on January 4th, before a blockbuster encounter two days later against giants AFC Leopards on January 7th at the Nyayo National stadium.
The city boys will then have three days to recover before facing Ulinzi Stars on January 11th at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. They then take on KCB FC three days later, on January 15th at the Sportpesa Arena. On January 19th, the Naibois will battle it out with champions Kenya Police FC before returning on the continental stage on January 25th to take on Azam FC of Tanzania in Nairobi. The encounter will likely determine their fate in the Caf Confederations Cup as they carry the hopes of a Nation.
