Morocco and Comoros are set to kick off their TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 campaign Today, 21st December 2025 in Rabat.
The tournament begins this Sunday at the Complexe Moulay Abdellah, with the opening match pitting the host nation, Morocco, against Comoros.
For the Atlas Lions, it’s finally time to start a tournament they are determined to win on home soil, with a passionate crowd behind them. The stadium is ready, and the atmosphere is electric.

Morocco has been carefully preparing for this moment over the past few weeks. Head coach Walid Regragui and his technical team have worked tirelessly, fine-tuning tactics and fitness. They’ve been managing the absence of key players like Achraf Hakimi, Hamza Igamane, and Sofyan Amrabat, making final adjustments along the way.
Meanwhile, Comoros arrives without too much pressure but with clear ambitions. Under Stefano Cusin, the team has had limited time to train together, but each session has helped build cohesion. Despite being considered outsiders, the Coelacanths are eager to prove they belong on the continental stage and to defend their chances.
Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 at Complexe Moulay Abdellah.

Regragui emphasized the importance of preparation and mindset: “We’ve been working towards this for two years. It’s a big day, playing at home. Our goal is always to win the AFCON and give it our all. Our supporters are behind us.”
He also touched on Hakimi’s situation: “He might start, or he might not. Every game counts. We need to manage emotions and play with confidence and humility.”

On the Comorian side, Cusin expressed pride ahead of this historic match: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our country and team. Morocco is highly competitive, with or without Hakimi. We’re trying to strike the right balance between defense and attack.”
Youssouf M’Changama shared his excitement: “Playing in the opening match means a lot to us. We want to keep raising the level of football in Comoros.”
Pre-Match Stats:
Morocco and Comoros have faced off just once in an official match, during the AFCON 2023 qualifiers, where Morocco secured a 2–0 victory at home.

Since then, much has changed, but Morocco remains the favorite, especially in Rabat. For Comoros, this opener is a major test, with hopes of pulling off an upset and kicking off their tournament on a high note.
