Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr. Patrice Motsepe delivered an uplifting address at the 47th CAF General Assembly, celebrating the East African nations’ successful hosting of the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Motsepe expressed his enthusiasm and pride during his remarks, stating, “The best way to invest to make a profit is to invest in football.”
He highlighted the remarkable achievements of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, who co-hosted the tournament from August 2nd to 20th, 2025, asserting that this edition was the most successful in the competition’s history.
According to Motsepe, the event drew full stadiums, showcased world-class football, and reached an impressive audience spanning over 100 nations globally.
In a heartfelt tribute, he acknowledged the evolving landscape of African football, saying, “In Africa, we don’t have small countries anymore; Madagascar made us proud.” He emphasized the passionate commitment and investments made in football by these nations, noting, “We always knew that Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are football nations, but the enthusiasm and stimulation in those countries reflect that the sport is growing.”
Motsepe also pointed out the lessons learned from this tournament, reflecting on the need for better arrangements and time management.
He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with local governments, acknowledging the crucial support from leaders such as President Dr. William Ruto of Kenya, President Mama Samia Suluhu of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Mseveni of Uganda.
“When you get the government working with us, they spend so much money on the stadiums and infrastructure. Thank you so much. It’s a partnership that we want to replicate in many of the other countries,” he stated.

Motsepe’s commendations also included a call for recognition for the efforts of the three key figures in the hosting arrangements, FKF President Hussein Mohamed, FUFA President Moses Magogo Hassim, and TFF President Wallace Karia, encouraging the assembly to stand and applaud their contributions.
In attendance was the FIFA President Giovanni Vincenzo Infantino who echoed the great strides Africa have made in football.
As African football continues to thrive, Motsepe’s words resound with optimism for the future, underlining the potential for growth and collaboration throughout the continent.
