Burundian Tactician Francis Haringingo Cleared to Coach Rayon Sports

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA)  has cleared Francis Haringingo to  coach nine times national league champions Rayon Sports after resolving his contractual dispute with Kiyovu Sports.

However, following mediation efforts by FERWAFA, all parties reached an agreement.

“After successful discussions between all sides, Haringingo is allowed coach Rayon Sports,” FERWAFA said in a statement released on Thursday, April 23rd, 2026.

Reports indicate that the coach paid Kiyovu Sports Rwf6 million as part of the settlement, after which the club agreed to withdraw its complaint from FIFA.

Kiyovu had initially blocked the Burundian coach’s move, accusing him of breaching his contract by leaving without the club’s consent.

Haringingo’s deal with the Green Baggies was set to run until August 2027, but reports indicate he had grown unhappy and formally notified the club in late March of his intention to depart after receiving an offer from Rayon Sports.

The club rejected his request, insisting he could not leave mid-season. Kiyovu also claimed that Haringingo failed to provide the required 15-day notice, prompting them to file a complaint with FIFA.

Rayon Sports officially announced Haringingo’s appointment on March 31, replacing French man Bruno Ferry, who had been dismissed earlier in the month following a poor run of results.

However, FERWAFA withheld his coaching license after Kiyovu escalated the dispute to FIFA, preventing him from taking charge. As a result, he missed Rayon’s goalless draw against Gicumbi FC.

He was also at risk of missing the club’s trip to Rubavu for their matchday 27 clash against Rutsiro FC at Umuganda Stadium on Sunday.

Haringingo previously coached Rayon Sports during the 2022/23 season, leading them to the Peace Cup title with a 1–0 victory over APR FC in the final at Huye Stadium.
