18 -time national Tanzania champions Simba SC thrashed Fountain Gate 3-0 at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium , to reduce the gap at the summit of the Mainland Premier League to just five points.
The clinical victory moves the Msimbazi giants to 39 points, piling the pressure on rivals and defending champions Young Africans (Yanga), leaving Fountain Gate, languishing in 14th place with 16 points, in the relegation dogfight.
Simba asserted their authority from the opening whistle, though a stubborn Fountain Gate defence held firm for much of the first half. Zambian international Clatous Chama rifled a low strike into the bottom corner after intercepting Jimson Mwanuke’s desperate clearance in stoppage time of the first half for the opener.
Simba doubled the score after Selemani Mwalimu turned provider with a back-heel flick into the path of Senegal’s flying winger Libasse Guèye, who danced through the backline before slotting a clinical finish past the stranded Fountain Gate goalie Machupa Kapili in the 53rd minute.
