The 2026 edition of the Kwanza Heroes League is officially set to kick off this weekend, bringing elite grassroots football back to the heart of Trans Nzoia. With a record 15 teams confirmed for this year’s campaign, the stakes have never been higher for local talent looking to make their mark on the national stage.
The action begins in earnest on Sunday, 22nd March 2026, with a thrilling double-header at the Makhonge Primary School Grounds. The venue is expected to be packed as local rivals face off in the opening fixtures:
13:00 ETA | Mirembe FC vs. Small Simba FC
15:00 EAT | Makhonge FC vs. Emoru BlackStars FC
The afternoon’s second match is already being billed as a “clash of titans,” with home-side Makhonge FC looking to set an early season pace.
“Scouting, moulding, and exporting talents from the football-mad region is a plan the community-owned club is hoping to achieve,” Wanyonyi noted, highlighting the league’s role in supplying players to higher tiers, including FKF Division One clubs.
The league’s impact is already visible through success stories like Shabana FC striker Oscar Juma, who utilized the league as a stepping stone. According to Wanyonyi, the ultimate goal remains clear: “The team has been signing the best players from the Kwanza Heroes League, and we hope to tap more from the region.” He notes.
This year, the league continues to make significant strides in visibility, as all match statistics, player performance data, and official standings will be hosted on www.kenyafootballdata.com.
By digitizing the competition, the league ensures that every goal is documented, providing a “living CV” for players.
This aligns with the broader vision for the region: “The plan is to secure promotion to the Regional League and later get to Division 2. it is crucial in our search for promotion and football development in our area,” says Wanyonyi.
The 15 teams starting their journey on a clean slate this weekend include:
