The stage is set for a mouthwatering Futsal Uganda Cup final! Following a high-octane weekend of semifinal action, Mengo City and QC Mbarara have emerged as the last two teams standing, booking their spots in the championship match in contrasting yet equally impressive styles.
From a dramatic second-half comeback to a ruthless goal-scoring masterclass, here is how the finalists punched their tickets to the grand stage.
Mengo City FC proved that it’s not how you start, but how you finish. Facing a disciplined Lubiri Falcons side, Mengo found themselves trailing early when Ssentongo Arafat capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the Falcons ahead in the 6th minute.
For much of the first half, Lubiri’s compact defense seemed impenetrable, leaving Mengo frustrated at the break. However, the second half belonged to one man: Joshua Aziku.
The clinical forward ignited the comeback in the 25th minute with a calm finish to level the score. With the momentum firmly in Mengo’s favor, Aziku struck again in the 36th minute to take the lead, before completing a sensational hat-trick just two minutes later. His three-goal blitz secured a 3-1 victory and sent the Mengo faithful into a frenzy.
If Mengo City’s win was about resilience, QC Mbarara’s victory was about pure, unadulterated dominance. In a lopsided semifinal, the Mbarara-based side dismantled Edgars Youth Programme in an 11-2 goal-fest.
The rout began early with Kenneth Majara opening the floodgates in the 4th minute. While Edgars managed a solitary response through Mukiibi Akram to make it 3-1, they had no answer for the relentless QC Mbarara attack.
Ndiihukire Gibran was the star of the show, netting an incredible four goals. Majara also walked away with a hat-trick, while Othieno, Mulangira Shaphiq, Isaac Apenyo, and Eria Kabagambe all added their names to the scoresheet. It was a statement of intent from the Mbarara giants, who look unstoppable heading into the final.
Grand Finale Awaits
The victory sets up a fascinating clash of styles. We will see the tactical resilience and individual brilliance of Mengo City go up against the explosive, free-scoring machine of QC Mbarara.
With both teams boasting players in red-hot form—most notably hat-trick heroes Joshua Aziku and Kenneth Majara—the Futsal Uganda Cup final promises to be a classic.
