Kenyan winger Job Ochieng has further cemented his growing reputation in European football after renewing his stay with Spanish La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, committing his long-term future to the Basque side until 2028.
“OFFICIAL STATEMENT | Job Ochieng renews until 2028,” read the announcement, in a brief statement posted on X, formerly Twitter with an improved two-year contract extension.
The renewal comes barely a fortnight after Ochieng marked a significant breakthrough by making his senior debut for Sociedad.
He is the second Kenyan to feature for Real Sociedad after FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga, and only the third Kenyan to play in La Liga following Michael Olunga, formerly of Girona FC.
Having joined the club’s youth system in 2022 from the Maspalomas academy, first featured for Real Sociedad C, making his debut on February 26 in a 1-0 victory over Alavés B.
His performances earned him promotion to Sociedad B at the start of 2023, where he became a regular in Spain’s competitive Segunda División structure.
After three years honing his craft in the lower tiers, Ochieng’s persistence paid off with elevation to the senior squad.
On February 7, he etched his name into history books, coming off the bench in Sociedad’s 3-1 triumph over Elche CF and subsequently was on the unused substitute in their 4-1 defeat by Real Madrid
