Veteran and popular Kenyan football commentator Paul ‘Diblo’ Kaberia is dead, following a prolonged illness.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our colleague, Mr Paul Kaberia, football commentator at Radio Jambo for over 20 years,” Radio Africa Group HR Manager Jemima Ngode,annolunced in a statement on Sunday, May 24th, 2026.
She added, “We extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. We ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
Kaberia was a veteran Kenyan sports journalist and football commentator best known for his long-serving role at Radio Jambo for more than two decades, becoming one of the most recognisable voices in local sports broadcasting..
Over the years, he built a loyal following among football fans through his engaging match analysis and lively on-air presence and his passion for the game and ability to connect with listeners earned him a loyal audience across the country.
Kaberia gained popularity among football fans for his energetic and entertaining commentary style, especially during local and international football matches.
Beyond commentary, Kaberia also mentored upcoming sports journalists and played a role in shaping sports coverage in vernacular and mainstream radio.
He was also a passionate advocate for the welfare of local athletes. He often stated that if he ever took the reins of Kenyan football leadership, his immediate priorities would be ensuring fair treatment and compensation for Kenyan Premier League players, alongside a strict, zero-tolerance policy to completely eradicate stadium hooliganism.
Locally, his loyalty lay firmly with Tusker FC, a team he fiercely supported since 1989.
