Regional heavyweights Hilal Omdurman placed one foot in the knockout stages of the CECAFA Kagame Cup following a ruthless 4–0 victory over Zanzibar champions KVZ FC in their second Group C encounter.
The Sudanese titans, who opened their campaign with a 2–0 win over Kenya’s Tusker FC, now sit comfortably atop the group standings with six maximum points.

While the scoreline suggests smooth sailing, Al Hilal tactician Guy Bukasa praised his team’s adaptability, acknowledging that KVZ presented tactical hurdles early on.
“It was by no means a straightforward fixture,” Bukasa stated post-match. “The opposition arrived with a clear strategy to restrict our space and force us into difficult moments, but our tactical discipline allowed us to manage every scenario effectively. Securing six points puts us in a strong position as we approach our final group game.”
Bukasa’s side gradually wore down the Zanzibari defense, taking full advantage of transition moments to put the match well beyond reach before the final whistle.
For KVZ FC head coach Amri Said, back-to-back defeats in Group C have offered a crucial testing ground for his domestic champions following their opening-day loss to Rayon Sports.
Rather than dwelling on the scoreline, Said remains focused on the structural growth of his squad:
“Despite the heavy loss, our general play showed clear progress compared to our tournament opener,” Said explained. “We refuse to lose confidence. The objective now is to take the positive structural elements from today’s performance and apply them in our final match.”

Addressing the tactical gap between local competition and regional tournaments, Said added: “Competing against sides of this caliber—with international and continental experience—is a priceless learning process for our players. It exposes our weak points and elevates our standard.”
Al Hilal now await their final group hurdle against host nation Rayon Sports, while Kenyan Premier League side Tusker FC prepare for a must-win showdown against the same Rwandan hosts.
