The Confederation of African Football has officially launched the bidding process for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, inviting its 54 Member Associations to submit expressions of interest to host Africa’s biggest football tournament.
The announcement marks the beginning of what is expected to be a highly competitive race among African nations eager to stage the continent’s premier football event.
According to CAF, the Africa Cup of Nations has grown into one of the world’s most-watched sporting competitions, attracting more than 3.2 billion television viewers and generating over six billion digital views globally.
The continental governing body revealed that it has developed a comprehensive bidding framework for the three tournaments with support from independent adviser PwC, alongside technical, financial and external legal experts. The framework is designed to ensure a transparent, credible and ethical selection process that aligns with international best practices.
The bidding process comes as East Africa prepares to host the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027, which will be jointly staged by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027. It will be the first time three African nations co-host the tournament.
CAF also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the continental football calendar, noting that it will organise a senior men’s national team competition every year except during FIFA World Cup years.
The opening of the bidding process gives African nations a fresh opportunity to showcase their infrastructure, football development and ability to host major international sporting events, with successful hosts expected to benefit from increased tourism, investment and global exposure.
CAF said additional announcements regarding its national team competitions will be made in due course.
