NAIBOIS THROUGH TO MOZZART BET CUP QUARTER-FINAL
Nairobi United are through to the quarter-final of the FKF Mozzart Bet Cup after they edged past Posta Rangers 2_0 in a thrilling round of sixteen fixture played Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
The Naibois came into the match high on confidence after a brilliant run of results and performances in recent weeks that has seen them remain unbeaten in their last five matches.
Coach Godfrey Oduor made just one change to the team that drew 2_2 with Kakamega Homeboyz in their last league encounter. Mustafa Kizza came in for Duncan Omalla on the left wing.
The match started in a cagey manner with both teams cautious of any early mistakes. Nairobi United goal keeper Bernard Jairo was forced into a series of saves mid way through the first half before Kevin Wangaya finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute.
Enock Machaka received the ball from Lesley Otieno after a quick throw in before delivering a brilliant cross into the box. Posta Rangers goalkeeper Bixente Otieno came of his line, parrying the ball to Kevin Wangaya who unleashed a vicious shot almost reaping the back of the net to give Naibois the lead at the break.
In the 66th minute, Brian Mzee played the ball to Enock Machaka after a turn over in possession before playing a neat one two with Kevin Wangaya who put him through on goal to score making it 2_0.
Speaking after the match, Nairobi United Head Coach Godfrey Oduor commended the boys for a job well done.
“It was tough not easy, despite us scoring the two goals. I am proud that the boys were able to step up and show that we want to defend our cup. Getting two goals against Posta Rangers and a clean sheet is something commendable and we can always pick from there.”
Wonder boy Kevin Wangaya who continues to impress since making his debut for the city boys, expressed his delight at the win.
“It all goes back to the team, I appreciate them alot. We prepared well for this match, we know it’s a tournament we have to perform better and kill the game early and give our best. I appreciate the technical bench and my team mates.”
