Visa Trouble Denies DR Congo Super Fan Patrice Lumumba Travel for Crucial World Cup Playoff

The Democratic Republic of Congo  superfan Michel Kuka Mboladinga —widely known for his resemblance to the late Congolese Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba is set to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Jamaica at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

This is a huge blow for DR Congo fans who would miss his energy and motivation in the stands as they look forward to a historic World Cup qualification because of visa issues.

According to a post on X by journalist Micky Jnr, the popular Congolese fan was unable to secure a visa after attempting to get one in Kenya and Ethiopia.

Mboladinga has become a recognizable figure among DR Congo fans. He notably captured attention during the AFCON 2025 in Morocco, where he followed the team throughout the tournament until their elimination against Algeria national team.

He received global recognition and got rewarded with cash gifts and endorsements even after Algeria eliminated the Leopards in the AFCON Round of 16.

His absence comes as the Leopards play one of their most important matches in recent years.

The passionate supporter, famously nicknamed “Lumumba,” confirmed he will miss the match due to visa complications that prevented his travel to Mexico.

Despite efforts—including support from Minister of Sports, Didier Budimbu—the necessary travel documents were not secured in time.

In a statement shared on his official X account, Mboladinga expressed his sadness:

“It is with deep regret that I announce to you that I will ultimately not be in Mexico. We were in Kenya, but despite all the efforts made, particularly by the Minister of Sports, His Excellency Didier Budimbu, we were unable to obtain the visas. So we returned to Kinshasa with the fellow broadcasters on the morning of Sunday, March 29.”

It was previously reported that DR Congo experienced visa issues before their 2026 FIFA World Cup intercontinental playoff in Guadalajara, Mexico. There was a delay in approving the player’s visa, and it was thought that it could affect their preparations, but it was resolved in time for the players to travel.
