Mengo City Reigns Supreme in Futsal Uganda Cup Final Thriller

It was a night of pure futsal magic as Mengo City asserted their dominance on the national stage, successfully defending their Futsal Uganda Cup title in a pulsating final against a resilient QC Mbarara side.

The victory capped off a historic day for the club, as the Mengo City Lady Stormers also secured the inaugural Futsal Women Uganda Cup earlier in the day, completing a perfect “double” for the Mengo ownership.

The men’s final began with Samuel Omars looking nearly unstoppable. He netted two clinical goals early, putting the champions in a comfortable 2-0 position.

For a moment, it seemed like Mengo City would cruise to an easy victory.
However, QC Mbarara refused to back down. Shafiq Mulangira clawed one back before the break, and right after the restart, “The Hitman” Eria Kabagambe hammered home an equalizer to make it 2-2.

The shift in momentum was palpable; the underdog was suddenly hunting the crown.

With the tension at an all-time high, Mengo City goalkeeper Geoffrey Atuhairwe stepped up to deliver a moment of pure brilliance, finding the back of the net to restore his team’s lead.

That goal proved to be the catalyst that broke QC Mbarara’s spirit. Sharif Opuuli took control of the game shortly after, scoring from a spectacular angle before bagging his second of the night just minutes later.

By the time Captain Anthony Male added his name to the scoresheet to extend the lead to 6-2, the result was beyond doubt.

Despite a late consolation goal from Daniel Ebedu, the night firmly belonged to the side in white.

The men’s victory added the perfect final chapter to an incredible day for the club. With the Lady Stormers already claiming their historic title against the Entebbe Cheetahs, the trophy cabinet in Mengo is set to get a lot more crowded.

For Mengo City, this isn’t just a trophy—it’s a statement of intent for the future of futsal in Uganda. As the dust settles on this intense campaign, the club has firmly established itself as the benchmark for domestic futsal success.
