Yanga Beat Cecafa Club Champions to extend Tanzania Premier League lead

Young Africans (Yanga) beat Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations *CECAFA) club champions Singida All Stars 3-0 to extend their lead at the summit of the NBC Tanzania Premier League at Airtel Stadium on Thursday, March 5th, 2026.

The reigning champions moved four points clear of their closest rivals, Jeshi la Kujenga Tanzania (JKT), delivering a commanding performance that serves as a major statement of intent in their quest to retain the domestic crown.

Yanga’s persistent pressure finally paid off in the 38th minute through Prince Dube, who clinically steered the ball into the far post to silence the home crowd after Max Nzengeli threaded a sublime ‘V-pass’ into the path of the onrushing Prince Dube.

In the 44th minute, Mudathir Yahya found Dube in the 18-yard box, only for the striker to be hauled down by Morris Chukwu for the centre referee to point at the spot.

Ugandan playmaker Allan Okello stepped up to take the responsibility, beating goalkeeper Metacha Mnata to double the advantage to score his first goal in the yellow and green colours to end his 10-game drought.

Mudathir Yahya tapped home from close range shot from a rebound to make it 3-0 after Mnata punched away a fierce strike from the edge of the box unleashed by Dube.

The victory takes Yanga to 32 points from 12 matches, from 10 wins. For Singida, the loss left them ninth in the standings.

Rivals Simba SC are also eight points behind the leaders with a game in hand. The Reds are next in action on Saturday when they face second tier club B19 FC in the Federation Cup.
