Tanzanian football powerhouses and bitter rival Simba SC and Young Africans returned to local scene after being eliminated from continental assignments in the CAF Africa Champions League on a winning note in the Tanzania NBC Premier League over the weekend.
Defending league champions Young Africans SC (Yanga SC) edged out Namungo FC 1-0 away in the at Majaliwa Ruangwa Stadium.
The all important goal was scored in the 25th minute by Angolan striker Laurindo Dilson Maria Aurelio ‘Depu through a penalty kick for the 26 times Tanzania national football champions to secure maximum points.
The penalty was awarded after Namungo FC defender, Abdalah Mfuko, brought down Yanga SC midfielder, Maxi Nzengeli, inside the penalty area for the centre referee Abdallah Mwinyimkuu to point at the spot.
Following the results, Yanga SC now has 25 points in second place, three points behind leaders Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa (JKT) , with seven matches in hand while Namungo FC nicknamed the Southern Killers remain in seventh place with 20 points after 15 games.

Eighteen times national league champions Simba SC beat Tanzania Prisons 2-0 in the NBC Tanzanian Premier League at the Jamhuri Stadium on Sunday.
Selemani Mwalimu, who’s on loan from Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, broke the deadlock in the 19th minute before South African defender Rushine De Reuck completing the score from a corner kickon the stroke of halftime.
De Reuck has now scored three goals in 18 matches since joining the Reds of Msimbazi in July 2025 after mutually parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Simba climbed to fourth on the log standings, having amassed 22 points in nine league outings this season, three points behind bitter rivals Yanga.
Steve Barker’s men have seven games in hand over log leaders JKT Tanzania, as they were competing in the CAF Champions League, where they crashed out in the group stages.
 De Reuck has now scored three goals in 18 matches since joining the Reds of Msimbazi in July 2025 after mutually parting ways with 13 times South African Premier League champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Barker’s team will return to action with a clash against third-placed Pamba Jiji on Wednesday afternoon.
