Singida Black Stars hold South Africa’s Stellenbosch to Avoid CAF Confederation Cup Last Place Finish

Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars wrapped up their CAF Confederation Cup Group C campaign a 0-0 draw with South Africa’s  Stellenbosch FC at at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, February 15th, 2026.

Both teams were already out of the competition, with CR Belouizdad and Otoho qualifying for the knockout stages from Group C.

Going into the match already out of contention for a quarter-final spot, the Maroons were playing to at least end the campaign respectably.

The South African Cape Winelands came into the clash with nothing but pride to play for as their quarter-final hopes officially ended last week following the defeat to Otoho d’Oyo, while Black Stars were also eliminated with a game to spare.

Stellenbosch were dealt a blow on the stroke of halftime after being reduced to ten players as full-back Asekho Tiwani was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card.

Despite being a man down, Hunt’s charges continued to push for the opening goal and they should have taken the lead on 63 minutes when Cupido played in substitute Omega Mdaka, who skipped past one challenge before firing wide with only the Black Stars goalkeeper to beat.

Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens came up with a vital intervention in second-half stoppage time to deny Black Stars forward Malanga Horso Mwaku a late winner as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils.

Sunday’s result was a missed opportunity by Gavin Hunt’s coached side to at least finish the campaign third on the table.

But they remained stuck at the bottom of the standings with five points from six games after recording one win, two draws and three defeats. They scored just two goals and conceded nine.

Singida ended in position three with the same number of points as Stellenbosch, who have an inferior goal difference.

CR Belouizdad lead the standings, while AS Otoho d’Oyo are second.

Stellenbosch: Stephens, Nkwali, Stanic, Lebusa, Tiwani, Palace, Mokobodi, Kodisang, Phili, Cupido, Khanyi

Subs: Ah Shene, Enyinnaya, Mdaka, Mthiyane, Butsaka, Lekeoloane, Makhubu, Mabasa, Titus
