Moroccan Giants Wydad AC Eliminate Azam from CAF Confederation Cup

Three times Africa Champions League winners Wydad Athletic Club (AC) beat Azam FC to eliminate the Tanzanian club and top their CAF Confederation Cup group  on Sunday February 15th, 2026 at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco.

The Moroccan giants went into the match already qualified, but the win ensured they finish top of Group B in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Pascal Msindo’s own goal broke the deadlock in the 64th-minute mark before France international Walid Nassi scored deep into stoppage time to cement victory for the Moroccan giants.

Wydad AC emerged as group winners with 15 points, followed by Congolese outfit Maniema Union (12 points), with Azam third with nine and Nairobi United finishing with zero points. The Moroccan team scored nine goals and conceded just two.

Azam who were in a must win situation to boost their qualification chances, had lost their matchday one 2-0 away to AS Maniema Union of DR Congo, and returned home to lose 1-0 against Wydad on matchday two. However, they changed gear to win matchday three – a 2-1 win against Nairobi United.

The Tanzanian Premier League outfit returned home to seal a double over the promoted Kenyan side with a 1-0 win. Azam’s qualification to the knockout stage for the first time in history was further boosted with a 1-0 home win against Maniema.

The win against Maniema lifted Azam to nine points from five matches, drawing them level with second-placed with the Congolese team and setting up a dramatic finale to the group stage.
