Lower Tier League Team Eliminates 10 times Champions AFC Leopards from FKF Cup

Ten-time champions AFC Leopards, failed to advance to the Round of 32 in one of the early upsets of the 2026 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Mozzart Bet Cup.

Leopards were eliminated from the competition following a dramatic 4-3 victory on post-match penalties by newcomers and the FKF Nairobi East Division side BB Bread at Police Sacco.

Former Leopard’s goalkeeper Ezekiel Owade,  denied Kennedy Owino from the spot to seal a historic win for the lower tier league side.

Leopards’ defender Frederick Alushula netted an own goal, giving the underdogs an immediate lead.

Six minutes before halftime when Moses Nyuol rose highest to meet a corner from Reagana Chavulimu, sending the ball powerfully into the net past Emmanuel Kusindi.a to double BB Bread advantage to lead 2-0 at halftime.

Fifteen minutes from time, Owino capitalized on a blocked free-kick from Samuel Semo, lofting the ball past Owade to make it 2-1.

Five minutes later, James Kinyanjui latched onto a long ball and fired a powerful shot to level the scores at 2-2, setting the stage for a tense penalty shootout.

Joseph Tindo calmly converted the fifth and final penalty, while Semo’s effort struck the woodwork, confirming BB Bread’s shock elimination of the Kenyan giants.

The result sees BB Bread advance to the round of 32 in their maiden Mozzart Bet Cup appearance, leaving AFC Leopards to extend their seven-year domestic cup drought woes for yet another year dashing hopes for a domestic cup double.

The 2019 Mozzart Bet Cup champions Bandari FC whipped the Sakaja Super Cup champions  Githurai All Stars 3-0 to secure a place in the Round of 32.

The Round of 64 encounter was part of a double-header staged at the Police Sacco Stadium, with 2017 winners AFC Leopards taking on BB Bread in the second match of the day.

Frank Ouya, William Wadri and Alfred Emoni Tanui scored to seal victory for the Dockers,  seeking to end a seven-year wait for their third domestic cup crown.

Tusker FC moved to the next stage after edging Mwea United 3-2 at Wang’uru Stadium, with Cliff Oruko and a Thomas Omole brace sealing the win.

A fourth-minute strike from Richard Omondi, was enough for Kenya Commercial Bank to to see off Compel FC at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

At Eldoret ASK Showgrounds, goals from Ezekiel Omuri and Derrick Otieno in the second half powered Shabana FC to a 2-0 win over Commons FC.

At St Andrew’s Turi School Grounds, Chebaiywa Lions beat hosts Turi Youth 2-0 to advance.

At Marula Grounds in Naivasha, flower growers Shalimar FC exited the competition at the Round of 64 for the fourth consecutive year after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Kisumu-based TBM Health.

Former Gor Mahia forward Dickson Raila scored the decisive second-half goal.

KU Hardnuts 4 Razors FC 0

Kenyatta University Main Ground witnessed a dominant display as KU Hardnuts thrashed Razors FC 4-0 to book a place in the next round.

Migori Youth’s Billy Clinton and Police Youth’s Joseph Otieno each netted a brace for the comrades.

Raysa 0 BMC All Stars 1

In Ngong at Vapour Grounds, Ravsa were knocked out following a 1-0 loss to BMC All Stars, with Joseph Otieno scoring the lone goal.

Oinopsos FC 2 Solian City 0

At Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Oris Mumia netted twice for Oinopsos FC coached by Phelix Ogutu to end Solian City’s campaign with a a 2-0 win.

At Kericho Green Stadium, Kipchimchim Group finally reached the round of 32 after two previous failed attempts, beating Planetch FC 3-1.

Bidco United 1 Naivasha Police 0

The 2021 Mozzart BetCup third place finishers Bidco United advanced with a 1-0 victory over Naivasha Police, while Ian Mungei’s strike guided KSG Ogopa past Gituru to complete the list of teams through to the round of 32.
