FUTSAL UGANDA CUP: Apenyo Hat-trick and Kazibwe Late Heroics Headline Quarterfinal Berths

The 2026 Futsal Uganda Cup reached fever pitch on Friday night at the Old Kampala Futsal Arena as the final spots for the quarterfinals were decided in high-octane fashion. It was a night defined by a stunning comeback from Edgars Youth Programme and a dramatic last-minute penalty that kept Kabowa Dream Team’s title hopes alive.

In the opening highlight of the evening, Edgars Youth Programme proved why they are one of the most resilient sides in the competition, overturning a first-half deficit to dismantle Grameen FC 5-2.
Grameen FC initially looked to cause an upset, heading into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead courtesy of an 11th-minute strike by Junior Niwamanya.

However, the second half belonged entirely to the Edgar Watson-owned club.

The turning point came in the 23rd minute when Isaac Apenyo found the equalizer. Just sixty seconds later, Apenyo struck again to turn the game on its head. Feni Alfred added a third to stretch the lead, and while Niwamanya managed a second goal for Grameen to make it 3-2, the Edgars momentum was unstoppable.
Apenyo completed his clinical hat-trick from the penalty spot before youngster Brian Olwa came off the bench to seal the 5-2 victory, ensuring Edgars’ safe passage into the last eight.

If the other match was about dominance, the second was about pure drama. Kabowa Dream Team edged Lubiri Falcons 4-3 in a seven-goal epic that wasn’t decided until the final seconds.
The match was a see-saw affair; Kabowa led early through Alex Kizito, Carlos Kaddu, and Victor Kazibwe, but the Falcons refused to fly away. Kintu Mansour bagged a brace and Sulaiman Mutyaba added a third to level the score at 3-3, setting up a grandstand finish.
With the clock ticking down, Carlos Kaddu was fouled in the area, handing Kabowa a golden opportunity. Victor Kazibwe stepped up under immense pressure, rattling his penalty off the crossbar and into the net to secure his brace and the winning goal.

The results have set up a mouth-watering knockout stage. Kabowa Dream Team will now prepare for a heavyweight clash against QC Mbarara, while Edgars Youth Programme awaits their opponent from the “best losers” pool.

With the technical quality of futsal in Uganda continuing to rise, the CECAFA region is watching closely as the tournament nears its business end.

Friday Night Results:
Edgars Youth Programme 5-2 Grameen FC (Apenyo 3, Feni, Olwa | Niwamanya 2)
Kabowa Dream Team 4-3 Lubiri Falcons (Kazibwe 2, Kizito, Kaddu | Mansour 2, Mutyaba)
