Kenya Football Mourning the death of Kakamega Homeboyz Star Silas Abungana After Reported Assault

The East African football fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of Kakamega Homeboyz player, Silas Abungana.

The Kenyan Premier League side confirmed on Thursday that Abungana succumbed to severe head injuries at Kakamega County General Hospital. The injuries were reportedly sustained during a violent attack on the night of Tuesday, February 3.

In an official statement, the club expressed deep devastation over the “untimely demise” of the young player. While investigations are ongoing, reports from Kenya suggest the assault may have involved a family member—a detail that has added to the shock of the regional football community.

“We respectfully request privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, and friends as we come to terms with this unimaginable loss,” the club shared.

As one of the prominent clubs in the FKF Premier League, the loss of a Kakamega Homeboyz player resonates deeply across the borders. Fans and clubs across Uganda, Tanzania, and the wider CECAFA region have joined in mourning a talent gone too soon.

The club is expected to provide further updates regarding funeral arrangements and the official investigation in the coming days.
