Kenya’s 1988 Africa Cup Winners Cup representatives Shabana brought to an abrupt end a four match unbeaten run of their former coach and ex-Sports Cub Villa striker Bernard Mwalala as they pipped Bandari 1-0 in a SportPesa League match at Gusii Stadium on Sunday, February 1st, 2026.
Prior to the game, Mwalala who ditched Shabana for Bandari slightly over three weeks ago, had led the Dockers to three wins and a draw.
However, his bid to extend his good start suffered a blow at the hands of his former employers, losing by a solitary goal in a match marred by suspect and poor officiating.
In the 24th minute, Brian Olega engineered a counter attack before delivering a pass to Michira who attended to dribble his way with the ball hitting Clifford Otieno’s chest.
The Referee surprisingly awarded a penalty that was slotted home by Michira.
Earlier, a quick change of play between Clifford Otieno and Omar Rajab saw the latter whip a cross into the area that was met by Msagha slotted home perfectly but the goal was disallowed for offside in the build up amidst protests from Bandari players.
The win sees Tore Bobe climb to 31 points and third on the Sportpesa League table after completing the double over the Mombasa based club.
For the Dockers, the result marks a disappointing end to their recent run of form, as they struggled to find a way past a resolute Shabana defense to lose their first game in seven matches.
