Ugandan Duo To Officiate Key CAF Futsal Qualifiers in Maputo and Zanzibar

As the road to the 2026 CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations heats up, East Africa’s officiating prowess is taking center stage. Ugandan referees Brian Nsubuga Emmy and Isaac Sengendo have been handed major responsibilities by CAF for the upcoming qualifying window this February.
The duo, who have become household names in the Futsal Association of Uganda (FAU) domestic leagues, are proving that the region’s refereeing standards are on par with the continent’s best.

The Ugandan officials will first stop in Zanzibar on February 3, 2026, for a highly anticipated East-vs-West showdown between Tanzania and Ivory Coast. In this fixture at the Amani Indoor Stadium, Nsubuga will serve as the Third Referee while Sengendo takes on the Reserve Assistant Referee role.

The pair will then fly to Maputo for the Mozambique vs. Mauritania clash on February 8, 2026. For this encounter, Nsubuga has been appointed the First Referee, with Sengendo supporting him as the Second Referee.

This is not the first time the pair has been trusted with high-stakes regional matches. Their chemistry was evident during the 2024 qualifiers when they handled the Namibia vs. Tanzania game in Windhoek.
Nsubuga, a FIFA-badged official, further boosted his credentials last year in Morocco during the Futsal Women’s AFCON, where he was among a select group of 30 elite referees chosen from across Africa.‍
