The Futsal Association Uganda (FAU) has officially opened its doors for the 2026 season, calling upon primary schools across the country to register for the upcoming Futsal Primary Schools League.
As the new academic year approaches, FAU is placing a heavy emphasis on grassroots development, viewing the primary school structure as the bedrock for the future of Ugandan futsal and the national team, the Futsal Cranes.

The 2026 edition of the league is designed to be more than just a competition; it is a platform for holistic development. FAU Chairman Hamza Jjunju has previously highlighted that the league’s goal is to introduce technical skills, discipline, and teamwork to pupils at a formative age.
“Futsal is the perfect teacher for young footballers,” FAU Chairman, Hamza Jjunju stated. “With more touches on the ball, limited space, and high intensity, these kids develop decision-making skills that will benefit them whether they stay in futsal or transition to the 11-a-side game.”
Key Highlights for the 2026 League:
Inclusivity: The league is open to both boys’ and girls’ teams.
Developmental Focus: Categories are structured to match key stages of child development, ensuring age-appropriate competition.
Visibility: Participating schools gain significant recognition within the national sports fraternity and become part of the official FUFA/FAU development pathway.
The league offers a safe and enjoyable environment with rules specifically adapted for youth—such as unlimited substitutions and no offside rule—ensuring that every child gets meaningful playing time.
Furthermore, FAU’s partnership with the Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA) ensures that standout talents from this league are monitored for potential inclusion in the U18 roadmap ahead of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.
FAU is now inviting all interested primary schools to officially confirm their participation. Schools are encouraged to:
