Uganda’s TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 campaign came to an end after a 3–1 defeat to tournament heavyweights Nigeria, who completed the group stage with a perfect record. The match was played at Complexe Sportif de Fès, Fès.
The Cranes entered the match knowing only a win would keep their hopes alive, but they were up against an experienced Nigerian side that had already beaten both Tanzania and Tunisia earlier in the group.
Nigeria took control midway through the first half, opening the scoring through Paul Onuachu. Uganda’s task became even more difficult early in the second half when Salim Magoola was sent off for handball.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Uganda showed fighting spirit and continued to push forward. Rogers Mato pulled one back in the 75th minute, giving East African supporters something to cheer, but Nigeria had already done enough to secure victory.
East Africa Still in the Race
While Uganda exit the tournament, Tanzania now carry East Africa’s hopes in Group C.
All eyes will be on the final standings as the Taifa Stars await confirmation of their place among the best-ranked third-placed teams.
A historic knockout appearance remains within reach, and belief is growing.
