Angola are on the balance of qualifying for the next round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after fighting to barren draw against seven times champions Egypt in Agadir on Monday, December 29th, 2025 in Morocco.
The Palancas Negras, will now have to wait and hope for a lifeline to progress as the third best placed finisher.
For Angola, the result brought their tally to two points in the ongoing 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations, leaving their hopes of progression hanging by a thread as they await a potential spot as one of the best third-placed teams.
The stalemate ensured the Pharaohs finished atop Group B with seven points, one ahead of South Africa, who edged Zimbabwe 3-2 to claim second place.
In post match interview, Patrice Beaumelle, Angola head coach said: “I have mixed feelings tonight. First of all, I am sad because we only got one point. We wanted more. But on the other hand, I saw my team do exactly what I asked of them on the pitch. I think we were the better team tonight and that we deserved to win. In short, I am sad but at the same time very proud of my players.”
Hossam Hassan, Egypt head coach: “We wanted a positive result and this draw is satisfactory. We chose to change the team and rest players who featured heavily in the first two matches. I am very satisfied with the players we fielded tonight. We are happy with this result and we now look ahead to the round of 16, regardless of who we face. We are ready.”
