Morocco Dominates at the CAF Awards 2025: A Night of Historic Achievements

The 2025 CAF Awards witnessed an extraordinary celebration as Morocco emerged as the standout nation, clinching multiple prestigious titles and making history in African football. Led by star players Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak, this Golden Night for Moroccan football showcased their elite talent on one of Africa’s biggest stages.

Achraf Hakimi, the right-back sensation playing for Paris Saint-Germain, has made headlines by being crowned the African Player of the Year. At just 27, he becomes the first defender to win this prestigious award in five decades, a remarkable feat reflecting his outstanding skills and contributions on the field.

Hakimi outshone formidable competitors such as Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, having played a crucial role in PSG’s success, steering the team to both the French Ligue 1 title and their first-ever Champions League triumph. This accolade marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first Moroccan to receive this honor since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.

Yassine Bounou

Joining Hakimi in the spotlight was Ghizlane Chebbak, who was awarded the African Female Player of the Year. The Moroccan captain’s victory was particularly impressive, as she surpassed notable players like Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade and her teammate Sanaa Mssoudy.

Chebbak’s remarkable performances during the recently concluded 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where she emerged as the top scorer and scored a stunning goal in the final, solidified her place in football history. Her win marks a monumental occasion, making her the first Moroccan to receive this award since its inception in 2001.

In another highlight of the night, Yassine Bounou earned the title of CAF Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year. The Moroccan international’s outstanding performances for both club and country have finally been acknowledged after years of being overlooked by observers.

Bounou accepted the award at the ceremony, a symbol of recognition for his consistency and excellence between the posts, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s top goalkeepers.

Morocco Man team U20

Additionally, the Morocco U-20 national team was named Team of the Year after a historic journey that saw them clinch the FIFA U-20 World Cup title in Chile earlier this year. This victory not only marked the first time an African nation lifted the trophy but also highlighted the promising future of Moroccan football.

The U-20 squad triumphed over strong competitors, including Morocco’s senior national team and Cape Verde, in a testament to their talent and determination.

The achievements celebrated during the CAF Awards 2025 reflect the remarkable progress of Moroccan football on both the continental and global stages. With these accolades, Morocco has firmly established its position as a powerhouse in African football, showcasing the immense potential and talent emerging from the nation.
