In an electrifying encounter on Friday night at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Vipers SC edged out table leaders KCCA with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to a decisive strike from Allan Okello. The match, part of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, showcased a tightly contested battle, reflecting the competitive spirit of both teams.
Allan Okello, who was previously a key player for KCCA, returned to haunt his former side in the 32nd minute. He capitalized on a defensive miscue when goalkeeper Charles Lukwago failed to handle a low cross from Yunus Sentamu, allowing Okello to pounce on the loose ball and net the game’s only goal. His vital contribution not only secured the three points for Vipers but also earned him the Man of the Match award.
This victory marked Vipers’ second consecutive win, significantly boosting their standing to 10th place with six points, even though they still have four games in hand. On the other hand, KCCA, despite suffering their first defeat in six outings, maintained their position at the top of the league table with 11 points.
The match also saw bookings for Marvin Youngman and Enoch Ssebagala of Vipers, alongside Joel Sserunjogi of KCCA, as both teams showcased their determination to secure points amidst the intense rivalry.
In an equally thrilling fixture at Midigo, newcomers Entebbe UPPC celebrated their most impressive performance yet, securing a convincing 4-2 win against Calvary, who were making their first home appearance in the top tier. The match was a rollercoaster of action, with both teams exhibiting attacking prowess.
Entebbe UPPC’s Samuel Kawawa opened the scoring in the 37th minute, setting a high tempo for the visitors. After the halftime break, Hassan Ssenyonjo doubled the lead, giving UPPC a comfortable cushion. Calvary managed to respond, with John Rogers finding the back of the net through an assist by Lawrence Olaboro. However, UPPC quickly restored their two-goal advantage thanks to strikes from Ambrose Kigozi and Muhammad Kyeyune.
Calvary fought back, with Olaboro converting a penalty to score their second goal, but it ultimately served as a mere consolation as UPPC maintained their lead. This victory propelled Entebbe UPPC up the standings to fourth place with 10 points, while Calvary remained at the bottom of the table, still seeking their first win of the season, stuck on a single point from five matches. Ssenyonjo also earned the Man of the Match title for his outstanding performance.
