In a significant development for Zambian football, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced a mutual separation with the head coach of the national team, Avram Grant. The decision was confirmed in a press statement released on October 29, 2025, marking the end of an era for the Chipolopolo under Grant’s leadership.
FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande emphasized that the separation was amicable and aimed at charting a new direction for the team. “Both parties agreed to this decision to help chart a new way forward for the Chipolopolo,” Shepande stated. He also extended well-wishes to Grant, expressing gratitude for his contributions to Zambian football.

Appointed on December 22, 2022, Grant’s tenure saw the team achieve notable milestones, including qualification for two consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments—2024 and 2025/26 editions. Under his guidance, Zambia is preparing to compete in the upcoming AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco, where they will face formidable opponents in Group A, including the host nation, Morocco, as well as Mali and Comoros.
While specific details surrounding Grant’s departure were not disclosed, FAZ confirmed that further information would be provided soon. As Zambian football fans await news of Grant’s successor, there is a palpable sense of anticipation about what this change might mean for the Chipolopolo’s prospects in future competitions.
Nkweto Tembwe, FAZ’s Head of Media and Communications, assured stakeholders that the association remains committed to the growth and success of Zambian football as they embark on this new journey.
