Singida Black Stars Secure Historic Qualification in CAF Confederation Cup

In an electrifying match at the Azam Complex Stadium, Singida Black Stars of Tanzania showcased their resilience and determination by overcoming Flambeau du Centre of Burundi in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stage clash on Tuesday night.

Following a narrow loss in the first leg, Singida orchestrated a phenomenal turnaround, ultimately clinching a 3-1 victory to advance with a 4-2 aggregate score—marking a significant milestone in the club’s history.

Flambeau du Centre drew first blood, taking the lead in the 26th minute through David Irishura. Despite the early setback, Singida Black Stars remained undeterred and regrouped during halftime. The turning point came shortly after the break when Horso Muaku equalized, igniting hope for the home supporters.

As the match progressed, the tide turned further in Singida’s favor. In the 65th minute, a pivotal moment unfolded; the Burundian side was reduced to 10 men after a deliberate handball in the box.

The subsequent penalty was confidently converted by Zambian midfielder Clatous Chama, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. The celebrations continued when Idriss Diomande netted the third goal in the 75th minute, effectively sealing the victory.

With this remarkable outing, Singida Black Stars not only celebrated their stunning comeback but also etched their name into the annals of club football history by advancing to the group stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup for the first time ever.

They now join a prestigious lineup of clubs that includes Tanzania’s Azam FC, Zesco FC from Zambia, Maniema FC of the DR Congo, Algeria’s USM Alger, Ivory Coast’s San Pedro, and Morocco’s Olympique de Safi.
