Tanzania’s talented midfielder, Charles M’Mombwa, is gearing up for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, aiming to help his team achieve glory on the continental stage.
At just 27, M’Mombwa, who was born in DR Congo but raised in Tanzania, has become a pivotal player for the Taifa Stars, known for his energy, tactical awareness, and skill on the pitch.
Having begun his journey in Tanzania’s youth leagues, M’Mombwa made his mark in Australia’s A-League with Macarthur FC and has since pursued a career in Europe, showcasing a remarkable ability to control the midfield and contribute defensively and offensively.
As the tournament approaches, M’Mombwa expressed his enthusiasm to CAFOnline about representing Tanzania: “The African Cup of Nations is always an exciting time for every nation in Africa. We, as Taifa Stars, are thrilled to be part of another tournament. I believe it’s going to be great,” he stated.

With a positive mindset, he added, “The preparations are going well. We’ve been training together since the World Cup qualifications, and the team is coming together nicely. I truly think we can surprise a few people in this AFCON.”
M’Mombwa spoke about the honor of receiving a national team call-up, emphasizing, “Every time I’m called to represent the Taifa Stars, it’s special for both me and my family. It’s a significant opportunity to showcase our talents on such an important platform.”
The Taifa Stars find themselves in a challenging Group C, facing formidable opponents including Nigeria, former champions Tunisia, and local rivals Uganda. Tanzania’s AFCON campaign kicks off on December 23, where they will take on Nigeria in what is expected to be a thrilling encounter in Fes.
With M’Mombwa’s skills and determination, Tanzania fans are hopeful for an impressive showing as they seek to leave their mark in this year’s tournament.
