Buhimba United Saints Triumph in Historic Hoima Derby as KCCA Stumbles at Home

Hoima, October 16: Buhimba United Saints celebrated their third consecutive victory in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a nail-biting 1-0 win over local rivals Kitara FC in what was dubbed the first-ever Hoima derby. Meanwhile, KCCA FC faced a setback at home, being held to a goalless draw against Lugazi FC in a tense matchup at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

In the highly anticipated derby match held at Royal Park, Butema, the atmosphere was electric as fans turned out in droves to support their teams. The decisive moment came in the 81st minute when Edison Agondeze scored the lone goal of the match, following a well-executed assist from teammate Maxwell. Agondeze, who had received a yellow card earlier in the match, became the hero of the day, earning the Man of the Match accolade for his impactful performance.

The victory solidifies Buhimba United Saints’ position at the top of the league table, now boasting nine points from three matches. They sit a comfortable eight points ahead of Kitara FC, who, despite the loss, remain in 12th place after playing one game fewer than their rivals.

KCCA

In the second match of the day, KCCA FC encountered difficulties against a resolute Lugazi side. The match, played under the lights at the MTN Omondi Stadium, failed to produce goals despite both teams’ efforts. KCCA struggled to break through a strong Lugazi defense, while Lugazi’s Juma Mutebi was a standout performer, holding the midfield with poise and earning himself the Man of the Match title.

The draw leaves KCCA in second place on the league table, now with five points from three matches. Lugazi, in turn, finds themselves just below KCCA with four points and the same number of games played.

Looking ahead, the excitement continues as the league action resumes on Friday, with Mbarara City set to host BUL and URA welcoming Express. Fans can expect more thrilling encounters as teams look to improve their standings in this competitive league.
