Kampala, Uganda: In a heartfelt announcement shared on social media platform X, Usama Arafat has officially confirmed his departure from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Football Club after a remarkable four-season tenure. The winger, once a key figure for the club, is poised to join rivals Vipers SC as a free agent, following a breakdown in contract negotiations with KCCA.
Expressing his emotions, Arafat stated, “I want to start by expressing my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been part of my journey at KCCA. My time at this incredible club has come to an end, and I am truly thankful for the support, guidance, and opportunities I have received.”
Reflecting on his experience, he continued, “To the management, coaches, staff, and my teammates – thank you for believing in me and helping me grow as a player and as a person.” His departure marks the end of an era for KCCA, where Arafat established himself as one of the finest players in the Ugandan league and recently represented the Uganda Cranes in the CHAN tournament.
Despite significant interest from clubs in North Africa, negotiations fell through due to KCCA’s demands for training compensation. The club reportedly sought $100,000 in training fees, a figure that proved excessive for potential suitors, who were only willing to pay half of that amount. This situation highlights the complexities involved in player transfers, especially regarding training compensation fees mandated by FIFA.
FIFA training compensation serves to recognize the investment made by a player’s former clubs in their youth development. This compensation is payable when a player signs their first professional contract or transfers between clubs until they reach the age of 23. Such fees are determined based on the club’s category and the duration of the player’s training period.
Given that Arafat is moving to Vipers, which operates within the same football association, there is no obligation for the club to pay KCCA any training compensation. This provision has facilitated his transition, allowing Arafat the opportunity to embark on a new chapter in his career with minimal hindrance.
As he prepares for his next steps, Usama Arafat leaves KCCA with numerous fond memories and invaluable lessons, leaving fans and teammates wishing him success in his future endeavors with Vipers SC.
