Harambee Stars left back Erick Marcelo Ouma will miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Seychelles, set for September 5th and 9th, 2025. The talented defender sustained a serious injury during a training session with his club, Raków Częstochowa, in Poland.
In an emotional statement posted on his official social media accounts, Ouma revealed that he has ruptured his Achilles tendon, a serious injury affecting the large tendon at the back of the lower leg that connects the calf muscles to the heel. This injury will keep him sidelined, much to the disappointment of fans eager to see him represent Kenya on the pitch.
“Dear fans, unfortunately, during our training yesterday, I got injured, and tests revealed that I have ruptured my Achilles tendon,” Ouma shared. “I had hoped to play for my club and my country during the upcoming games, but sadly, this situation is beyond my control. I will do everything I can to come back stronger than ever. God bless you all.”
Harambee Stars, will play their World Cup qualifying campaign at home, welcoming Gambia to the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani. The match on September 5 is expected to draw a passionate crowd, with supporters ready to cheer their team on in hopes of a strong start to the qualifiers. Following this crucial match, Kenya will face Seychelles on September 9, also at Kasarani, with both games set to commence at 4:00 PM.
Head Coach Benni McCarthy has expressed confidence in the 23-man squad announced for these pivotal matches, emphasizing their importance for Kenya’s ambitions in international football. As they take to the field, the Harambee Stars will aim to rally without Ouma, whose presence will be sorely missed, yet the team remains focused on achieving success in the qualifiers. The excitement in the air is palpable, as fans and players alike look forward to a thrilling display of soccer that could set the tone for Kenya’s future in the sport.
